This email list has been created for the discussion of issues relating to all aspects of historical metallurgy in Ireland.
All users should respect normal email etiquette. At present no restrictions have been placed on the emails distributed, but please do not post large files/images to the list. If anyone should wish to distribute such material, please contact me (Tim.Young@geoarch.co.uk) and I can make suitable web space available.
I hope to be able to make archives of the discussions available through this web page in due course. In the meantime, however, as members join the list they may like to introduce themselves. I will collate those introductions and post them (the "who's who" page is here) so we will all know who we are!!
Members of the list may post messages to histmet-Ireland@geoarch.co.uk. Please do not post file attachments to the list - these can be hosted on the web separately on request.
Commands affecting list membership or operation should be sent to the mail server address:

Sending a message to maiser@geoarch.co.uk tells the mail server that the message body contains commands that it needs to process, rather than mail that needs to be delivered. Multiple commands can be included in a single message, one line per complete command, ending with a blank line or an EXIT command. You will receive a short message back, indicating the success or failure of the commands issued.
To subscribe to the list, send an email to maiser@geoarch.co.uk with the body of the email containing, on the first line:
SUBSCRIBE histmet-Ireland [Full name]
You will then receive a message requesting confirmation of the request, to which you must reply. When the confirmation has been received you will then receive a welcome message, giving details of the list commands.
To unsubscribe from the list, send an email from the subscribed address to maiser@geoarch.co.uk with the body of the email containing, on the first line:
UNSUBSCRIBE histmet-Ireland
For mailing list management, the following commands are also recognized by the mail server:
SET histmet-Ireland MAIL/NOMAIL : Turn on or off delivery from the list
SET histmet-Ireland VACATION X : Temporarily turn off delivery from the list for X days
SET histmet-Ireland REPRO/NOREPRO : Receive/Do not receive copies of your own postings to the list
STATUS histmet-Ireland : Get current subscription information for the list
