Fieldwork has shown the existence of a dam and pond immediately south-west of the ruined farmhouse of Hendy-isaf. The dam is 1.5m high, and the former pond extends for 100m to the north-west. The dam is cut in three places, of which the central break is probably original. The tailrace extends to the Ely to the south of the old farm. The pond is fed by a leat leaving the Ely 400m upstream of the dam (ST 039 813). Exposures of the dam interior around the northern break and in fallen tree roots, show the dam is constructed of slag. The slag is interpreted as being the waste from a finery forge. There is no known documentary record for a finery forge in this area, however documents do indicate a short-lived blast furnace was built 1.5km to the north-west near Talbot Green (Lanelay fach) in about 1596, and this forge might be a part of the same enterprise.
